MYSPACE and your WEBSITE
I taught a class last summer to a group of real estate
agents. The ad that got them to the class stated,
"Your next client is on Myspace."
The older the agent, the more they scoffed at the very
idea of finding a client, with money, that wasn't a
perpetrator, on Myspace. "I wouldn't want to waste my
time with anyone who's on Myspace!" an agent boasted.
I asked, "You wouldn't want ME as a client?" Well
don't worry. I wouldn't want YOU as a realtor! (Note:
the author of this article is the proud owner of three
homes, all of which have been purchased in less than
three years). I would not want a close-minded,
technologically illiterate agent! For the
20-somethings, business may get done face-to-face, but
it gets started mouse-to-mouse. I want to do business
with people who can move quickly, who can answer
questions faster than google. Who can close a deal
with efficiency and ease.
I want to do business with someone who THINKS LIKE
Myspace. Constantly networking, sharing information,
finding common problems and solutions. This doesn't
mean you have to BE ON Myspace, it just means you need
to understand it!
The agents in the seminar all stated that yes, they
would still be in the real estate industry in the next
five years. Well... that means NOW is the time to
learn how to communicate with your up and coming
clients. Regardless of your industry.
What is your industry? Weddings? Finances? Music?
Retail? Taxes? Teeth? Backs? Art? Real estate? Myspace
is relevant to all of you! On a direct level, it may
be a great place to find local and national contacts.
On a more abstract level, it might just hold the
cultural insight that your business has been missing
the last few years. By simply creating a Myspace
account, and getting in on the hubub, you will get
totally FREE training on how the next generation of
voters, business owners, and consumers think, feel and
do business.
Sounds like something to scoff at, aye?

In your face: One realtor went forward with a Myspace
consultation. She just closed her third deal with a 25
year-old client she met on Myspace.
